Hi, I’m Joe.  I’ve spent my life moving between the worlds of theatre and nonprofit leadership, with a few unexpected detours along the way—a three‑year stretch in commercial construction and a much longer run as an IT manager. I began my theatre career in the back of the house, working as a technical director and production manager in theatres across New England and beyond. Those early years taught me how shows really run: the deadlines that don’t budge, the problem‑solving that happens in the wings, and the quiet satisfaction of getting a room full of people to the same moment at the same time.

Over time, my work shifted from backstage to organizational leadership. I helped reopen historic theatres, managed operations for multi‑purpose venues, and eventually found myself guiding arts organizations through periods of transition—first as an executive director, then as an assistant director, and later as a consultant. I’ve always been the person who steps in when things are changing and a steady hand is needed.

After retiring in 2021, I hiked 1,500 miles of the Appalachian Trail and assumed my full‑time working days were behind me. But in 2023, I returned to The Music Hall as CFOO, and in November 2025 I stepped into the role of Acting President & CEO. My focus now is to keep the organization moving forward while the search for its next permanent leader unfolds.
When this chapter closes, I look forward to returning—once again—to a quieter life. For now, I’m here to help The Music Hall navigate its next steps with clarity, calm, and the kind of practical experience you only earn by doing the work.
